      Thor 2: Market and Distribution

      Sophie
      Thor 2

The producers of Thor 2 have used the internet as a way of advertising and marketing the movie, for example; You Tube promoted the movie trailer for Thor 2 as part of their Geek Week, You Tube also advertised the movie by putting it before other You Tube videos for 30 seconds or less. At the moment Thor 2 has only been released in cinema format, but this should be expanded to the DVD and Blue ray after it leaves the the cinema.

The current Box office figures for the UK release is already at £8.6 million in the first few weeks, this implies the popularity of the Marvel comics franchise. Although the Box office figures have shown to be outstanding, statistics show that sequels usually show strong opening numbers followed by hefty drops. In this case Thor 2 may not be able to stay on course especially with Gravity offering sturdy competition for later in this week, so I will be closely watching the figures to find out whether this is true. Thor 2 movie has been used to advertise the movie around London via billboards, bus advertisements etc.

Disneyland has also taken part in promoting the film as they have created attractions in the amusement park as a way of expanding their audience. This expands their audiences as it will attract fans of the popular franchise and in doing will benefit them as it brings more money to to their company.

Thor 2 has also been marketed in their wide range of merchandise being sold in selected stores such as; hats, action figures, t-shirts an posters. Merchandise is a good way of marketing the film as it increases the movie experience of the film fanatic, it does this by allowing them to feel more involved in film whether they buy a Thor hammer or action figure. It is also good as the target audience are teenagers and young adults, although merchandise like toys would appeal more to teenagers and young children it cold be useful to young adults or even adults that may be collectors.
